What's your Story?

People tend to under estimate the value of a great story or how much everyone loves an engaging narrative. Even people who say they don't like fiction are enthralled by stories, whether its gossip, history or current events. The world revolves on narrative, whether it cares to admit it or not.

Think of the people you know. Now focus on the ones you like the most. Now ask yourself why you like them. Is it because they tell amazing stories or because you share hilarious adventures? There is a narrative that relationship is built on. When you think about it, people have thrived on narrative since before we were able to write. There has always been an aural tradition of story telling that has captured audiences. This has translated over the centuries into books, television, podcasts, Youtube channels, Instagram photos and blog posts (just to name a few). I constantly see people scrolling on Facebook to see what's going on in the lives of the people around them. We are constantly seeking a story that we can digest and feel apart of.

Now there are people who aim to glimpse every story they can. See what everyone else is doing. Feel as if they are a part of someone's narrative. But there are people out there who are actively writing their own story and making it as engaging  as possible -- I challenge you to go on an adventure every once and a while to make your own compelling narrative. There are those who will say "My life is too boring to have my own adventure" and to that I say "Great! If your life seems boring then you don't have to do much to change it up some. Further more you might not be comfortable with huge changes so take baby steps and do something positive as well as exciting!"

To clarify, an "adventure" doesn't mean free diving in shark infested waters (although that would be a hell of a crazy endeavour that is bound to get a massive amount of likes on Youtube...bloody dangerous though). An "adventure" could mean chasing after something or someone you want. Making a dream come true. Leaving toxic people behind. Helping out someone who needs a hand without need of reward or acknowledgement. Taking a much needed vacation (or stay-cation). Spending some time with loved ones somewhere new. Staring at the stars. The possibilities are endless! You just need to decide your narrative, think about the story you want to create for yourself.

Every person is a book waiting to be read. Not every book has to be a thriller, adventure, comedy or romance to be enjoyed. There is an audience for just about every genre, so choose who you will appeal to.
