Reality flavoured with Fantasy

I love to day dream, seeing myself achieving feats (I consider it a form of planning...but other times its like a mini vacation). In my imagination I can simply rewrite history or just ignore reality for a while (which is great when you're stuck in traffic). Either way my little trip gives me a bit more motivation to get through the day and sometimes leaves me a little more relaxed.

I know I"m not the only one sprinkling my reality with fantasy -- writers, directors, entrepreneurs are just a few types of people who must have an active imagination. Comedians would never envision how to make people laugh without distancing themselves from reality (granted their reality seems filled with a lot more insanity than most). Med students all have to dream of how life would be once they become doctors (doesn't always pan out as they imagine). PhD students dream of the days after they present their thesis and then on to making a name for themselves. Everyone utilises their imagination to plan their future. We think about the things we want (even if we don't always get them its still nice to dream). Hell, I remember working with a man who wanted to run his own porn company and the mere idea of it made it easier to get through the day (I don't know if he ever made his own porn franchise but maybe he's still working on it or shifted gears).

The greatest ideas start within the imagination but only become real through dedication -- sometimes its like starting a fire with two wet noodles others its like lighting hay soaked in gasoline. Our imagination is also a means for us to relax, dwell on the impossible in order to consider what is possible (or find some sort of grey area that works as a transition point). So next time you're thinking about saving the planet from destruction or wondering how cool it would be to know how to earth bend you might just come up with a better way to organise your home or identify a profitable business idea. Or you are just stuck in traffic yearning to be elsewhere.
