Mother Nature's Gorgeous Fury

25/7/2016

So this morning I drove my mother to the airport (way before the sun had come up) and there was a lightening storm  going on -- nothing that seemed out of place, just some rain, thunder and lightening. Well, it all was pretty normal till I saw sparks behind my truck (on the road) and felt the thunder in my seat and steering wheel! You really don't grasp the depth of something until you feel it (or come close to it). On my way back from the airport it rained so furiously I was almost inclined to pull over and wait it out (but I'm stubborn so I kept riding it out since it seemed to be traveling where I was leaving).

We all tend to get caught up in our every day lives and forget how small we are in the greater scheme of things. Don't get me wrong, we are important (in our own ways) and can affect our environment in so many beautiful or destructive ways but nature is a true force to be reckoned with! When you come so close to the fiercest aspects of it you almost feel like soul searching (or at the very least driving along and feeling that primal fear of something you cannot control).

Don't get me wrong, I don't think nature is dangerous, I think its beautiful too (likely why my Instagram feed has so many bloody sun sets in it) and that everyone should seek to appreciate both its ferocity and beauty. Skydiving, scuba diving, hunting or a simple nature walk will let you see all sides of nature (some more readily than others). Get out there and take it all in.
