Love, Money, Fitness & Art

So some time last week...wait, no, it was over 2 weeks ago...I read this quote and it got me thinking "I like that idea a hell of alot!" Makes sense, narrow it down to 3 things you like: One that makes you money, one that fuels your creativity and one to keep you in shape.  Thanks for this one @Factsinyourface

The main point is to make these activities something you love because if you have no love for it then you're not likely to keep it up. No matter what you still have to survive (and money is the key to that). That meat wagon we each have access too needs to be maintained (like your car) or else it will fall apart. And art allows you to feel a sense of freedom. Love is that beautiful trick we play on ourselves to make us want to do something (or someone...).

The language used makes this concept more accessible. "Find three hobbies" not, "Get a job, stay in shape and be creative" (I don't know about you but the latter adds some anxiety to me while the former makes it seem a bit easier). The average person might consider themselves to only have one hobby that they actually keep up with (aside from troll...scrolling on Facebook or binge watching shows on Netflix). When you consider something as a hobby you tend to put more effort into it than say...a job. For work (especially if you don't own said business) you put in so many hours and just get the amount of pay you agreed to when you accepted the job. But for hobbies you end up not sleeping because you want to keep at it more and more.

Lets look at exercise...the word itself has given me a bit of a cringe. Exercise isn't usually all that fun, gets boring, is painful and makes you feel like its taking forever to get results. But lets say you love soccer and you play it weekly. That would be your version of heaven! Getting outdoors with some of your favourite people to kick a ball around is your idea of a good time. But it also keeps you in shape if you keep at it and do your best while on the field. It does what exercise does but with ALOT more enjoyment.

I figure at this point you get where I"m going in regards to being creative (but I"m gonna do it anyway). Being creative is a heavy process and when you put so much pressure on it you end up hindering yourself more than anything else. Speaking as a writer there are moments where I place too much pressure on myself to produce something good (which doesn't always happen but hey..we all can't be Charles Dickens or Karen Miller (I love her World of Warcraft stories!)). But if I sit down and day dream...or pace while I daydream (no judgement dammit) it feels so much easier and allows me to feel so much freer! And allows you to figure out new ways to tackle problems.

Love is the rope that ties these three activities to you because love is what causes you to go out of your way to be the best version of you. It makes you do things you don't really want to do but feel you have to. It makes you want to put your best foot forward and exhaust all the options.
Well...
...its that or its killing you slowly...
...but then that brings me to another quote that I will talk about some time later.
"Find what you love and let it kill you"
