Hurricane's Arrival

29/8/2015

So Hurricane Erika is approaching and since Nassau is a very low lying island most people here are buzzing about to ensure they are prepared for the impending hurricane. Most water depots are flooded, places that sell plywood are stocked and supermarkets are bursting at their seems; everyone on this island wants to make sure they are prepared for the impending onslaught. People are a bit anxious because it has been a while since we've seen a hurricane. Erika is going to be a terrible one for this island in particular because of the flooding she is causing; for the past week we have had severe rainfall which has made it almost impossible to drive through some areas here (fortunately when the sun came out it dried up in a few hours).

Looking at some of the footage from other countries that have been hit it Erika looks like a live version of a Siren (Google with Greek mythology) with a powerful song. Everyone should stay secure, have some supplies and try not to be out in the storm if you don't have to. Let's hope the fatalities caused by Erika are kept to a minimum.

Stay safe and try not to panic.
